Festivals

For many years Fusion has been running community festivals.

Based on building the ‘open crowd’, Community festivals provide a platform which invites and engages the wider community with a multi-stream program suited to three broad demographic groups

  • Children
  • Young Adults
  • Families

The concept of ‘Open Crowd Festivals’ has developed across Australia over the last 30 years. These festivals create an atmosphere that welcomes and seeks to engage every person that encounter them.

These festivals have become a regular fixture at major international sporting events after the success of the Sydney Olympics.

In the year 2000, churches worked with the organising committee to run free community celebrations alongside official events. This proved so successful that the Fusion team who helped to manage events in Sydney were invited to participate in Athens.

As a result of the Athens experience, open crowd festivals are now in cities and towns across Greece by local people seeking to build a sense of community locally.

Open crowd festivals are planned for the Soccer World cup in Germany and both the Beijing and London Olympics.

  • These festivals may include:
  • Large screen coverage of the sporting events
  • International and local entertainers
  • Interactive games and activities suited to children and youth
  • Cultural arts
  • Community involvement e.g. Fire Brigade, Police, Line Dancers, Scouts, School Choirs, etc

The events have been designed to be affordable and within the reach of all families. Wherever possible each festival will adopt a ‘no or low cost’ philosophy. The dream is that this day will be a free celebration for the entire community with all the activities, entertainment and food provided free of charge through the generous sponsorship of local community and business groups.
