Poatina Training

In the context of the warm, mentoring community in Poatina, our training offers you a unique opportunity to deal with area within each of us that hinder being fully available to God. It helps you gain the skills and awareness to enable you to reach out to Australian communities.

The Diploma of Youth and Community Work (Christian) (10352TAS) is a nationally accredited course. It is specifically designed for those interested in developing themselves, their understanding and their skills for working with young people and their communities. It can articulate to degree courses in some Australian universities.

The Nature of the Training
The first six months of the course is residential in Poatina, Tasmania. Through classroom-based training and practical fieldwork you will begin to form the skills, attitude and knowledge needed to be an effective youth and community worker.

You may exit the training after successfully completing these six months with a Certificate IV in Youth and Community Work (Christian) (10351TAS).

Having completed the six months in Poatina, you will take a placement within a Fusion centre in Australia. This will be your workplace for the remainder of the Diploma. The method of study is now strongly workplace based and you will return to Poatina (usually 4 times a year) for classroom based ‘intensives’ over a two week period.

Career Opportunities
While the orientation of the qualification is from a Christian perspective it will prepare you for a brad range of employment opportunities in areas such as: local government, community centres, juvenile justice, youth resource centres, residential housing, youth recreation, community development, support workers, youth advocacy and school chaplaincy.
