Youth Housing

Fusion has a strong and ongoing commitment to addressing deficits in the general community, and an ongoing deficit has been caring for young people who find themselves homeless.

For many years Fusion has been caring for young people who are “familyless”, in fact our first housing program was started in Murrumbeena before there was any kind of government funding for such a thing. It was that program that evolved into the refuge that is now in Moorabbin.

Our response to the needs of local communities is informed by our commitment to researching local needs. It is our view that in order to effectively work with people, you must first know who they are, what they need and what they care about. Youth Housing usually presents itself as a real need, and certainly did both in the South Eastern Suburbs and Mornington Peninsula where our current housing services are based.

Caring for homeless young people is not just about providing the personal care. . Fusion can be found on many youth sector networks around the country and in many other forums of service providers, as we seek to cooperate with others who are committed to caring for the community.

Since the International Youth Year in 1985 when Fusion released a series of white papers on youth issues, we have been committed to advocating on behalf of young people and those whose voices are not being heard. Fusion has a commitment to working towards shaping government policies so that Justice, Mercy and Compassion are guiding forces rather than self interest and greed.
